AIMS
The importance of the Preamble is that it is a statement of aims or goals the writers identified for their Constitution. It reveals some of their reasoning and their hopes for the country. The main aim for this brief, introductory gate is for you to reflect upon what is meant by the various "mission statements" in the Preamble, and to consider how well you think our system of government (based upon the Constitution) is doing with those goals today. Throughout the Self-Paced Core unit on the Constitution and U.S. Government, you may be asked to weigh specifics about the government's processes and functions against the guiding principles set forth in the Preamble.
